01Which trim should you buy

Which Forester trim should you buy? Start with four questions.

Six Forester trims, and the window sticker won't tell you which one is actually right for you. Buy too high and you pay for leather and Nappa you'll never think about. Buy too low and you feel it every January on Willow Creek Road.

The good news: for a Yavapai County driver, the decision comes down to four questions, not a spec sheet. Answer them honestly and the ladder narrows to one or two trims fast.

We do this at the desk every day, so we already know where most Prescott buyers land, and why. That's what the rest of this page walks you through, trim by trim.

Findlay Subaru Prescott holds a 4.8 Google rating from 1,705+ reviews. To schedule a same-day trim walk-through, schedule online.

02Forester Base

Forester Base: the standard-equipment starting point.

The 2026 Forester Base is the entry-point trim and the lowest MSRP in the lineup. It works best for the buyer who wants the Forester capability set at the lowest entry price and does not need leather, premium audio, or off-road-specific features.

Here's what surprises first-time Subaru buyers: the Base isn't stripped. Symmetrical AWD and the full EyeSight safety suite come standard, at no extra trim cost. (X-MODE starts at the Premium trim.) The full spec list is below.

We write more Base contracts for the Prescott Valley-to-Prescott commuter than for anyone else. If this is your first Subaru and heated seats aren't driving the decision, start here.

  • 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine producing 180 horsepower per Subaru USA
  • Lineartronic CVT
  • Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard
  • EyeSight Driver Assist Technology (Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Lead Vehicle Start Alert)
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • 60/40-split fold-flat rear seat
  • 8.7 inches of ground clearance

Why the Premium is the trim most buyers settle on

For Prescott winter mornings at elevation, the heated seats and heated mirrors alone are typically worth the Premium upgrade over Base.

The Premium adds the All-Weather Package (heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer), X-MODE, the panoramic power moonroof, and the 10-way power driver's seat. It tends to be the value-and-comfort sweet spot most buyers land on.

03Forester Premium

Forester Premium: the value-and-comfort choice.

The Premium is the value-and-comfort sweet spot. For Prescott families dealing with winter mornings at elevation and summer drives through the county, the heated front seats and heated mirrors alone are typically worth the Premium upgrade over Base. It tends to be the trim most buyers land on.

The step up from Base is mostly about comfort at elevation. The All-Weather Package (heated seats, heated mirrors, and a wiper de-icer) is the reason most Prescott buyers pick Premium, and it earns its keep on a January morning.

You also gain X-MODE, a 10-way power driver's seat, a panoramic moonroof, a wireless device charger, and the option of a hands-free power tailgate. Here's how each one plays out day to day:

04Forester Sport

Forester Sport: bronze accents and selectable engine modes.

The Sport repositions the trim for buyers who want an athletic visual character on the Forester platform. It is not an off-road-focused trim; that role belongs to the Wilderness. We have written Sport contracts for younger commuters and for buyers replacing a Crosstrek who wanted to keep the visual energy at the larger Forester size.

Bronze accents and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Sport carries an exclusive Sport-trim grille with bronze accents and rides on 19-inch alloy wheels in a bronze finish (a dark-metallic 19-inch set is optional) instead of the 17- and 18-inch sets on Base, Premium, and Limited. The visual character distinguishes it cleanly from Base or Premium at the curb.

Sport-specific suspension tuning.

SI-DRIVE selectable engine modes (Intelligent and Sport) come standard across the 2026 Forester lineup. What the Sport adds is Sport-specific suspension tuning, so the cabin feels more directly connected to the road on the twistier sections of Highway 89A and Iron Springs Road than on the comfort-tuned trims.

Sport-trim interior.

Sport-trim cloth and StarTex synthetic seat trim distinguish the cabin and bring a water-repellent surface that works for the dog-and-trailhead Yavapai weekend.

  • Exclusive Sport-trim grille with bronze accents
  • 19-inch alloy wheels, bronze finish (dark metallic optional)
  • Sport-trim cloth and StarTex synthetic seat trim
  • Sport-specific suspension tuning
  • Paddle shifters standard (Sport and above)
On our showroom floor we notice Crosstrek owners stepping up to the Sport, often because they want more cargo room without giving up the look. The bronze accents and dark wheels keep that energy at the larger Forester size, with space for the dog. How the Sport tends to come up in our showroom conversations
05Forester Limited

Forester Limited: leather, audio, and luxury.

The Limited is where comfort gets serious: leather and premium audio, without paying all the way up to Touring. It's the refined daily-driver most Prescott families settle on. (The ones who go higher usually jump to the Wilderness instead, for the off-road capability.)

Leather-trimmed seating and power adjustment.

Leather-trimmed seats with perforated inserts replace cloth from Sport down. The front-passenger 8-way power-adjustable seat joins the 10-way power driver's seat so both front-row occupants dial in their preferred position. A heated steering wheel comes standard.

Available Harman Kardon premium audio.

The Limited offers the Harman Kardon premium audio system as an option (it comes standard on Touring), and it is the audio upgrade that has moved more buyers from Premium to Limited on our floor than any other single feature. A wireless device charger rounds out the technology stack.

Want leather and the better audio, but not Touring's Nappa and ventilated seats? The Limited is your stop on the ladder.

06Forester Touring

Forester Touring: top-trim luxury.

The Touring is the top of the ladder for comfort. It takes everything the Limited has and adds Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. It's a narrower pick here, since most top-trim Prescott shoppers choose the Wilderness instead. The full list is below.

Nappa leather and heated/ventilated seating.

The Touring upgrades to Nappa leather-trimmed seats and adds ventilated front seats on top of the heated fronts that start at Premium. It is also the only 2026 Forester trim with heated outboard rear seats. The heated steering wheel, shared with the Limited, rounds out the winter kit for Prescott elevation.

Driver Focus and acoustic-laminate glass.

Driver Focus watches for distracted driving with a facial-recognition camera. Among the gas trims, only the Touring has it. Acoustic-laminate glass up front drops cabin noise on the highway runs to Phoenix or Flagstaff. Comfort over off-road specs? The Touring delivers.

  • Nappa leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Ventilated front seats (cooled-seat function)
  • Driver Focus monitoring system (distracted-driver alerts using a facial-recognition camera)
  • Acoustic-laminate windshield and front-side windows
  • Heated outboard rear seats

Touring-exclusive seating material

The Touring suits buyers who want top comfort over trail hardware. We have walked Limited buyers up to Touring on the back-to-back test drive for the ventilated-seat and Nappa-leather features specifically; for Prescott summers and winters at elevation, both have moved buyers.

Out-the-door pricing depends on trim, accessories, fees, and any current incentives. Our sales team can run a written estimate on any trim before you decide, so schedule online for the real number.

07Forester Wilderness

Forester Wilderness: the off-road trim for Yavapai outdoor families.

The Wilderness is the off-road-focused trim built for the Prescott National Forest, Iron Springs Road, Senator Highway, and the back-country routes throughout Yavapai County. It is the top-trim Forester our team sees Prescott off-road shoppers gravitate to. For Yavapai outdoor families who want the Forester platform plus serious off-road capability, it tends to be the popular pick.

9.2 inches of ground clearance and Geolandar A/T tires.

Per Subaru USA published 2026 Forester Wilderness specifications, the Wilderness runs 9.2 inches of ground clearance (versus 8.7 on other trims) and Yokohama Geolandar A/T all-terrain tires standard. Wilderness-specific suspension tuning adds longer spring and damper travel for the back-country routes our delivery team drives before every Wilderness handover.

The Wilderness-exclusive second X-MODE.

The Wilderness gets a second X-MODE setting (Deep Snow/Mud) that is Wilderness-exclusive, layered on top of the standard Snow/Dirt mode. For the steeper grades on Iron Springs Road or the loose surface on the approach to Skull Valley, the second mode is the difference between confident and tentative.

Towing, roof load, and rooftop tents.

This is where the Wilderness separates from the rest: it tows 3,500 lbs, more than double the 1,500 lbs every other Forester trim is rated for. The roof takes a tent, the badging sets it apart, and the full numbers are below.

  • 9.2 inches of ground clearance (versus 8.7 on other trims)
  • Yokohama Geolandar A/T all-terrain tires standard
  • X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes (the second mode is Wilderness-exclusive)
  • Anodized copper-finish front grille, hood badging, and accents
  • 700 lbs static roof-load capacity (for rooftop tents) and 800 lbs static rear-bench cargo capacity
  • Standard front view monitor for tight off-road visibility
  • Wilderness-specific suspension tuning with longer spring and damper travel
  • 3,500-lb maximum tow rating with the Wilderness-equipment package

The buyer who feels that second X-MODE engage on a loose grade is the one who orders the Wilderness. It is worth driving before you decide.

08What buyers ask

Frequently asked questions.

What is the difference between Forester Base and Premium?

Premium adds the All-Weather Package (heated seats, heated mirrors, wiper de-icer), X-MODE, a 10-way power driver's seat, a panoramic moonroof, and a wireless device charger; a hands-free power tailgate is available as an option. For a Prescott winter morning at elevation, the heated seats and mirrors alone usually justify the step up from Base.

Is the Forester Wilderness worth the price?

For Yavapai outdoor families who frequently drive Prescott National Forest, Iron Springs Road, Senator Highway, or the back-country routes to Sedona and Skull Valley, yes.

If your weekends run out toward Iron Springs Road and the Skull Valley back-country, yes. The Wilderness earns it with 9.2 inches of clearance and Geolandar A/T tires, a second X-MODE for the loose stuff, and a 3,500-lb tow rating no other trim comes close to. If you rarely leave pavement, the Premium or Limited is the better value.

How much does a 2026 Subaru Forester cost in Prescott?

Subaru USA publishes the current 2026 Forester starting MSRPs by trim at the Subaru USA Forester model page, refreshed against current factory incentive programs. Trim-by-trim pricing at Findlay Subaru Prescott includes any active factory incentive stack at the desk. Ask us for the live numbers on a specific trim, or browse current inventory.

What does X-MODE do on the Forester?

X-MODE optimizes the Forester's AWD, throttle, transmission, and braking for low-traction conditions, and comes standard from the Premium trim up (the Base does not have it). The standard version engages with one button for snow, dirt, and rough roads. The Wilderness adds a second mode, Deep Snow/Mud, for more extreme conditions. We demo it on the back-country roads to Iron Springs and Skull Valley before delivery for buyers who want to feel the difference.

Does every Forester trim come with EyeSight?

Yes. EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on every 2026 Subaru Forester trim per Subaru USA. The suite includes Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Reverse Automatic Braking. It also adds Lead Vehicle Start Alert. The Driver Focus distracted-driver monitoring system is an additional feature on the Touring trim only.

How long does Subaru cover the Forester warranty?

Per Subaru USA, the 2026 Forester carries a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 5-year unlimited-mile corrosion warranty, and 24-hour Roadside Assistance for the bumper-to-bumper period. There is no factory maintenance program for 2026. For coverage past the factory window, our finance team has the Subaru Added Security plan sheet.

Can the Forester Wilderness tow a small trailer?

Yes. The 2026 Wilderness with the Wilderness-equipment package carries a maximum tow rating of 3,500 lbs per Subaru USA. That covers most small off-road trailers, lightweight teardrop campers, small utility trailers, and bike or motorcycle trailers used for Yavapai County weekend trips. The other trims tow less. Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring rate at 1,500 lbs maximum.

What is the difference between the Forester Premium and Wilderness?

The Premium is the on-road value-and-comfort trim: All-Weather Package, panoramic moonroof, 10-way power driver's seat, and 8.7 inches of clearance. The Wilderness is the off-road trim: 9.2 inches of clearance, Geolandar A/T tires, a second X-MODE, and a 3,500-lb tow rating versus 1,500 lbs on the Premium. If most of your driving is pavement and elevation winters, the Premium fits. If your weekends run out toward Iron Springs Road and the Skull Valley back-country, the Wilderness earns the step up.

Is the All-Weather Package worth it?

For Prescott, yes. The All-Weather Package adds heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer, and it starts on the Premium trim. At Prescott elevation, winter mornings drop below freezing, so the heated mirrors clear frost fast and the seats warm the cabin before the engine does. That is the reason most of our buyers step up from Base to Premium.

Which Subaru Forester trim is best?

There is no single best trim; the right one depends on how you drive. For most Prescott buyers the Premium is the value-and-comfort pick, driven mainly by the All-Weather Package for winter mornings at elevation. For drivers who run the back-country routes out to Iron Springs Road and Skull Valley, the Wilderness is the better buy. The Touring suits buyers who want top comfort over trail hardware. Schedule online to set up a same-day side-by-side covering Premium, Limited, and Wilderness.
