Sweet Symphony Music for the Ears of Prescott

Findlay Subaru Prescott Sponsors 6-Concert Series Hosted by the Yavapai Symphony Association

Findlay Subaru Prescott is proud to sponsor the Yavapai Symphony AssociationOne Sunday a month from September to May the Performing Arts Center at the Yavapai College is delighted with the instrumental ensemble of the Phoenix Symphony. For the 2018-2019 Symphony Season, your Findlay Subaru dealership in Prescott foot the bill for these six shows hosting the dynamic Phoenix Symphony, an exquisite treat for the community.

Arlon Inman, President of the Yavapai Symphony Association said, “I appreciate the support from the Prescott Subaru. Dave MacFarlane, the General Manager, is magnificent to work with, and Christian (Robinson, Director of Marketing), is on top of everything. I appreciate everything.”

A special thanks is also listed on the organization’s website as a note from the President extending Arlon’s gratitude to the Findlay Auto Group as a whole, identifying their charitable giving to other programs where Findlay dealerships are located across Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon.

Sharing the Love of Music with Prescott

The Yavapai Symphony Association (YSA) is a nonprofit organization that is committed to serving the community by making available the entertainment and enjoyment of classical music. The Association proclaims a mission “to provide high-quality classical music performances for and to develop, promote, and enhance classical musical appreciation in Yavapai County.”

Making Music in the Minds and Hearts of Prescott’s Youth

The YSA also focuses on the Prescott-area youth, with its presentation of the annual Youth Day—Master Classes. Local students have the opportunity to receive instrumental instruction from musicians of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, held at the local high schools and middle schools. The students receive guidance, tips for performance techniques and maintenance for their instruments. For the 2019 Master Classes, 373 participated in the Youth Day to reap the benefits of these valuable lessons.

The YSA, along with the Phoenix Symphony, are both committed to the furthering the education and youth involvement in symphonic music production. With budget cuts running rampant in the school systems, music and art programs tend to be the first to get cut. With the dedication of the musicians in the orchestra, they willingly give back to the youth community to provide the opportunity to make teaching this art accessible for the inspired minds of the youth.

Arlon stated that an outreach program provides significant number of tickets offered to the local Prescott area schools inviting students to attend the symphony. “Ninety percent of students have never been to a classical music concert.” Programs are generated to promote a youth appreciation with the musical arts to continue the generations of talented performers in the sections of winds, strings, brass and voice.

Composing a New Generation of Musicians

Another astonishing commitment to the area’s students is the scholarships that are awarded to students graduating high school with a desire to pursue a degree in musical performance or music education.  The scholarship program started over 10 years ago. The YSA has since awarded $150,000 in scholarships with another $25,000 to be awarded this May. They also award scholarships to those looking to achieve a graduate level or master’s level degree in this field as well.

A Service for Those Who Served

Another astonishing gift the YSA makes priority to give is the honoring of the U.S. Military Veterans. YSA sponsors the VET TIX program which provides free tickets for Veterans and their families to enjoy participating in entertainment venues. Through the VET TIX program it provides over 60 veterans and their families with tickets to enjoy the concerts at the Yavapai Performing Arts Center. It’s a treat for the vets and their families, and memories that will always be cherished with this soul-touching experience.

The Passion Behind Bringing the Symphony to Prescott

In 1964 the American Association of University Women brought the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra to Prescott for a concert. This must have made an amazing impact on the community because just two years later the YSA formed its organization, vowing to bring the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra back to Prescott for more concerts.

Research shows the benefits of listening to classical music increases the secretion of dopamine, the “feel-good hormone”.  It is one of the brain’s neurotransmitters that helps to regulate emotions, attention span and learning abilities. It also increases a motivational response, providing a “can do” or “let’s do this” attitude.

What’s phenomenal to think about is that today’s students are interested in and are pursuing education that is attributed to the genius talents of legendary composers from the 18th Century. The YSA’s mission of increasing classical music appreciation within the community and extending this mission to the youth is reaching the ears of those in our hometown.

Senses Feast on the Symphonic Melodies

There is something to be said when you see a live musical performance. You are there with the creators of the beautiful noises joining together perfectly for sweet sounds that can flood one with memories and emotions. It’s felt first hand as the soothing tones are breathed through the woodwinds, strummed through the strings, rumbled from the percussion, and blown through the brass. The soundwaves stimulate the senses taking you along the musical magical journey of the highs and lows of the notes. Not only are you experiencing the creation from the ensemble, but you’re seeing the energy, the effort, and the passion that powers the sound as well. What increases the experience is being in an auditorium of 1,000 plus other people who have the same appreciation for the experience as you do.
